Hate me now
Kill all within my hands
Hate me now
Crush all within my hands
Squeeze all within my hands
Choke all within my hands
Hate me now
Trap all within my hands
Hurry up and hate me now
Kill all within my hands

All Within My Hands, Metallica

It been a damn long hard weekend already, and its only Saturday. Lat's just leave it at broken hardware, and five or six mis-installs of varying operating systems. I'm getting awfully tired of this.

Ah, I dunno. Other things are not well either, but I'll explain that at some later date when I figure it out.

Later.

I'm frantic in your soothing arms
I can not sleep in this down filled world
I've found safety in this loneliness
But I cannot stand it anymore

Cross my heart and hope not to die
Swallow evil, ride the sky
Lose myself in a crowded room
You fool, you fool, it will be here soon

The Unnamed Feeling, Metallica

Well, I'm down to one problem on the homework for one class, and one problem on the homework for another class. And both problems are driving me nuts and giving me very wrong results.

Cripes.

Okay, gonna relax, finish my dinner, and think about the problems for a while longer. Hopefully not too long, since they're due on Friday.

Ah well.

Good luck to anyone that needs it, and good luck to myself, because I sure need it.

Later.

Nnnnnnggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh
Topic: Daily Info

I tried imagining real hard yesterday, but dammit, nothing changed. I'll just have to keep imagining.

Well, at least I'm getting closer to being finished with the homework, I'm down to one problem in the one class, and just a few problems in the other. Hopefully, I'll be done by Thursday.

Sheesh

Imagine
Topic: Rambling

Imagine there's no countries,
It isn't hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine, John Lennon

In honor of John Lennon, I'm going to Imagine.

I imagine a world where politics stops being a contest about looks and visual perceptions, and more about the policies.

I imagine a world where the political campaign consists of speeches un-televised.

I imagine a world where intelligence trumps force, trumps style, and trumps perception.

And too the little McCarthyists and Bushites out there, I imagine a world where you do not exist.

I imagine peace.

Thanks, John.

A moment of silence for Piccolo.

...

I don't think I can save it, nor will I have the time to try for a few weeks. Yup: I now have to compile all the information about the checksums; develop a quasi-report for Paul and David when they get back from wherever (ie make suggestions about deletions and file moves, suggestions about files we no entries for, etc, etc, amen); talk to the other Undergrad RA Tyler about a massive data run he is doing so I can give it a project name, so the database doesn't become fragmented and useless; debug some software and add a few final features, then clean up the code, write a little documentation; preen out the checksumming utilities (although that's part of the features too); and maybe generate a movie.

Oh yeah, and a shit-load of homework too.

When it rains, it pours.

So, I'm going to grind at the homework now (I'm aware that its past 3 am).

Yup
Topic: Daily Info

Sorry bout that, been sitting behind a computer screen looking at a debugger for the last couple of days. Ah well.

I got Piccolo back up, after 4 crashes and 2 bad SCSI drives, so hopefully it will hold together long enough for me to finish up the last few things in my checksum apps and then I can move onto other things. Like Linux, and Projekt Physik.

Ah, I have other things to talk about, but I'm too tired to talk about them now. I'll catch you all on the flip side.

Failure
Topic: Rambling && Daily Info

I failed the good kernel today, or more accurately, my laptop failed the good kernel. Fuck. Stupid POS DVD drive is failing, and now its making funny noises. I know its not from trying to use burned CD's, since I've used them before, and I got the Linux to install on a much older machine. Ah well, still stuck with Windows.

Oh yeah, Piccolo's hard drive failed out completely today. I'll have to take it out on Monday and replace the SCSI drives and reinstall Windows. Sadness. So much sadness. But, at least I got one machine to install Linux, I just think I need to give up on trying to put it on a laptop. Maybe I'll buy a new CD-RW/DVD for the thing, and then it might be able to load Linux, and then I can get the good kernel on it. Or maybe I'll dual boot it onto my desktop, or the computers I'll be getting soon from Chris's Dad, or when KJ gets his own computer and gives me my home built one back. Or maybe I'll put it on the new computer I'm going to build. I just wanted it on my laptop. {Sigh}

Anyway, I guess thats all for now.

Later.

And then...
Topic: Daily Info

Now, what do you own the world?
How do you own disorder, disorder,
Now, somewhere between the sacred silence,
Sacred silence and sleep,
Somewhere, between the sacred silence and sleep,
Disorder, disorder, disorder.

When I became the sun,
I shone life into the man's hearts,
When I became the sun,
I shone life into the man's hearts.

Toxicity, System of a Down

Well, since no one could guess why my computer at work was named Piccolo, I'll extrapolate. While I was a sophomore in High School (and the summer before), the Cartoon Network had acquired the rights to produce English-language versions of Dragon Ball Z. I watched this show religiously, finally giving up on it in 12th grade when Cartoon Network kept changing the times it showed Dragon Ball Z. One of the characters in this show was named Piccolo, a very harsh (but somehow turned good from the first show called Dragon Ball, but that's irrelevant), very fast, and very powerful fighter. So my computer name is an homage to that character. Kinda dumb, I know, but I loved that show. Now if I could only find the DVD's of the show for less than $170 a season. {Sigh}

On another note, more work tomorrow. Shannon, I'll try to give you a call tomorrow afternoon sometime, while I'm babysitting one of the computers in the ADCS lab.

Also, I think I'm giving up on trying to upgrade my desktop. Its getting way to hard to find the Coppermine edition of the PIII (mine is a 700 MHz Coppermine) so I've just decided to build a P4 machine from scratch as solely a Linux box. Nothing fancy at first, just a 40 Gig hard drive, 2 GHz P4 with a fairly large board, and an average case that my work is dumping (the machines they used to contain were real lemons). But dammit, it'll have Tux Inside.

Anyway, I'm going to hit the hay now. Have a good one.

Infinity exists between one and two

Do I know all the answers? No. Do I wish I knew all the answers? Yes and no. Knowing them all I could help my friends, but that also means there is nothing left to learn.

To my friend who is in crisis: courage. Stand tall, you've done it before, you can do it again.

Did you know...
Topic: Daily Info

Did you know that nearly 1/3 of all life on the planet resides under the sea-floor? Its all part of a methane/sulfide kinda cycle. This kinda thing could explain "The Great Dying" that occurred at the end of the Permian period, since sometimes the methane builds faster than it can be converted to sulfides. In fact, right now, there are huge expanses of methane hydrate at the bottom of the ocean around nearly every coast line. And as a final bizarre twist, since these methane cycle microbes are so well protected from any kind of predation, they are able to maintain their cycle and require a cell division every 10,000 years or so. Weird.

Anyway, I'm still working on an essay about my scientific values called, tentatively, "I, Scientist" or maybe "Science, Mathematics, and Logic: My Tools." Basically about my idea and value system in light of the fact that I am a scientist, albeit a computer scientist, but one none-the-less.

Anyway, that's all for now.
